These crystal sculptures are fun to photograph. You can play around with lighting angles and colors to get completely different effects.
Mats Jonasson crystal sculptures are reverse-carved. The image is recessed at the back, and normally viewed through the glass. With soft lighting and a light background the image is a bit hard to see, but...
With somewhat narrower lights and a dark background it really pops.
In the photo at the top of this article, the sculpture is sitting on a colored gel, and I' holding it up at the back to get a seamless background. In the second picture, I have a gel over a spotlight under my translucent shooting table, and a different colored gel over a wider light, behind the backdrop portion of the table.
