David Bernett relief-carved marble sculpture: "Just Pals"

Cathy bought this green relief-carved marble sculpture, titled "Just Pals", for $1 at a yard sale. The artist David Bernett is renowned for this type of sculpture featuring Inuit and wildlife subjects. It measures 7 by 7 inches (about 78x78mm) and it's about 11/16" (18mm) thick.

It looks like somebody started removing the label, unfortunately, but all the important information is there.

For the top photo in this article, I used fairly hard light to get some shadows, and I lit the background with a pale blue gel. I had originally used softer light and a plainer background, shown below. I think the hard light and blue background give it a a more arctic-like feel.
